We are very excited to announce our Service Project for

2009 -2010

Occupaws is a Madison-based non-profit charitable organization, founded by Nicole Meadowcroft. Its mission is to raise, train and place highly skilled guide dogs with a Wisconsin resident who has a visual impairment.  OccuPaws is different from other programs in that the placement training sessions take place in the client’s home environment. (Most traditional guide dog training facilities require the visually impaired person to spend four weeks at their training location).

OccuPaws is an all-volunteer organization with 40 regular volunteers.  They conduct 4-5 major fund raisers each year, with all proceeds going to directly benefit guide dogs in training and their clients. All of OccuPaws' guide dogs are placed with their human partners FREE OF CHARGE.  OccuPaws operates solely on public donations.

OccuPaws recently developed and launched a unique program called Children’s Visual Companion Dogs.  This program matches visually impaired youth with specially selected dogs.  These dogs help build bridges to independence for blind children by giving them confidence, stability and increased self-esteem.

Who’s New will support this organization by:

  • Providing  direct monetary support
  • Providing gas cards for trainers and volunteers
  • Providing  dog food, toys, treats, and beds
  • Sponsoring  a puppy in training

                Meet Maddi and Sonny

We are sponsoring (2) Black Lab Puppies named Maddi and Sonny who were born on August 10th.  We will provide their vet and food bills and training expenses over the course of the year.  Each month OccuPaws will provide a progress report on the puppy’s health including pictures and introduce the puppies to our members at our monthly luncheons.
